Fishing

Enjoy a day of fishing at one of our Conservation Areas!

All Ontario residents between the ages of 18 and 65 must have a fishing license to fish in Ontario waters by law. One exception to this rule is license–free fishing periods during Ontario Family Fishing Events.

Visit the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for details on how and where to buy a fishing license.

Before fishing, you should become familiar with the provincial fishing regulations. Regulations define fishing seasons, catch limits of fish species and other matters. Refer to the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary from the Ministry of Natural Resources for more information.

The Otonabee Region watershed is within Fisheries Management Zone 17.

River flows and your safety

Water control structures (dams, weirs) control river flow throughout the Otonabee Region watershed. River flow can change throughout the seasons along the rivers and streams. As flows increase, the waterways can become dangerous. Anglers must be aware of Otonabee Conservation water control structures before fishing. Review marine safety measures before going out on the water.
