Cavan Creek Shoreline Restoration

The Cavan Creek shoreline restoration project involved the stabilization and naturalization of approximately 25m of eroded shoreline on a cold water tributary of Cavan Creek. The property is located in the Oak Ridges Moraine, and was completed in partnership with Community Stream Stewards, Fleming College and the private landowner.

The property has been owned by the landowner and his family for over 50 years, and during this time, over 3m of shoreline had been lost due to erosion. A variety of bioengineering techniques were used to stabilize and naturalize the shoreline including the installation of root wads, brush layers and live stakes. These features will provide habitat for both aquatic and terrestrial species, and provide stability to the shoreline.
