Welcome to the Selwyn Beach Conservation Area ~

The Selwyn Beach Conservation Area is located on the northeast shore of Chemong Lake, at 2251 Birch Island Road, just north of Peterborough.

Selwyn Beach is best known for its excellent swimming opportunities provided by a gently sloping sandy beach on Chemong Lake. Selwyn Beach also offers a boat launch and docking facility, fishing, a large picnic shelter, group camping areas and a hiking trail.

The 29 hectare (72 acre) property was acquired by the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority in 1973 to help preserve a section of the Kawartha Lakes shoreline for public use. It was purchased with the financial assistance of the Province of Ontario and donations to the Otonabee Region Conservation Foundation from various individuals, organizations and industries in the Peterborough area, including Fisher Gauge Limited.

Picnickers will enjoy the convenience of the picnic shelter, with central barbecue and tables, located near the beach area. You can reserve the use of the picnic shelter for family or other functions by contacting the main office.

The gently sloping sandy beach and swimming area offer a great way to cool down on hot, sunny days. Parents and caregivers are advised that the beach and swimming area are not supervised. Sorry, no dogs allowed on the beach.

Boat launching and docking facilities provide access to Chemong Lake and the Kawartha Lakes system for those who enjoy recreational boating.

Organized groups are welcome to camp at the Selwyn Beach Conservation Area by contacting the Warsaw Caves to make a reservation. Family and group camping is also available at the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground near Warsaw (www.warsawcaves.com) and Beavermead Campground in Peterborough (www.beavermeadcampground.com).

The northern portion of the conservation area has been left undeveloped, but does offer a hiking trail. The trail passes through a variety of habitats ranging from wetland to woodland to open field. The trail provides a great way for visitors to discover a variety of plants and wildlife.
