Engineering Technologist

Full-time, Permanent, Peterborough, Ontario
Salary range: $51,272 - $60,320

Applications are invited for the position of Engineering Technologist at the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. The Engineering Technologist will be responsible for providing engineering support relevant to the review of land use planning and development, watershed planning initiatives, and technical support for restoration and stewardship programs and projects.

Required Qualifications:
- Certified Engineering Technologist
- At least five years of related experience
- Knowledge and applied experience of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling including Visual Otthymo 2, HEC-2 and HEC-RAS
- Experience in completing a topographic survey utilizing total station
- Knowledge and aApplied experience of Provincial stormwater management techniques
- Applied knowledge and experience with current water/environmental management principles and technologies, municipal planning, federal and provincial legislation
- Applied knowledge of Provincial Natural Hazard Policies and Guidelines related to Public Safety
- Effective communication, time management and organizational skills
- Strong computer skills
- Project management an asset
- AUTOCAD experience an asset

Major Responsibilities:
- Review engineering components of applications submitted in accordance with the requirements of Section 28 of the Conservation Authorities Act
- Provide technical review and comments on land use planning applications ensuring compliance with the Provincial Policy Statement
- Review and approval of stormwater management plans
- Assist with the review and utilization of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and surveying
- Participate in watershed planning projects, providing engineering input
- Act as Flood Duty Officer, as required
- Assist with seasonal tasks for the Authority’s flood control structures such as replacement of stop logs
- Assist the Acting Flood Duty Officer with monitoring and data collection during flood events
- Represent the Authority at meetings on Authority related matters
- Provide information to the general public, development proponents and municipal, provincial and federal staff
