Public Safety Restrictions
COMFORT STATION CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY – ROADS CLOSED TO SKIING
Construction of the new Comfort Station at the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground is well underway. The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority would appreciate the public’s cooperation while public safety restrictions are in place during the construction period.
Heavy equipment and large trucks are using the interior roads through the Campground area to access the construction site. The interior road system doubles as the main winter recreational trail during the winter season. In the interest of public safety, the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority is closing the interior roads through the Campground area for the 2009-2010 winter season or until further notice. Completion of the new Comfort Station is anticipated in mid-spring 2010.
John Williams, Manager of Conservation Lands for the Authority, says that the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area has become a popular area for winter recreation in recent years. “Many people have come to enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter hiking throughout the area using the interior roads. However, given that construction crews and heavy equipment will be working in the Conservation Area during the next few months, the Authority has put in place public safety restrictions. This means winter recreation activities, such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking, will not be permitted on the interior roads for the 2009-2010 winter season or until further notice.” explains Williams.
Williams suggests that there are other conservation areas, provincial parks and ski clubs open for the public. Some ski trails are groomed while others are not and some areas charge a fee. Further information can be found at www.otonabee.com, www.ontarioparks.com as well as www.kawarthanordic.ca.
