On the occassion of the ORCF's 40th Anniversary celebration at the Hope Mill, Bob Rehder takes time to thank everyone for their involvement with this very unique restoration project.

Robert Rehder enjoyed a fulfilling career as a respected engineer with General Electric in Peterborough, recognized for his creativity and ingenuity. Rehder’s many volunteer activities, well known throughout the local community and beyond, include his passion to resurrect, rebuild and repair an historic water-powered sawmill as a world-class heritage building. The Hope Mill is operated by the Friends of Hope Mill, a heritage conservation committee of the Otonabee Conservation Foundation, as a demonstration sawmill for all to experience and enjoy.

Robert Rehder has received several awards acknowledging his engineering expertise including the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Centennial Medal in1984 and the Ontario Professional Engineers Awards’ Engineering Excellence Medal in 1993. Additionally, Robert Rehder and the Friends of Hope Mill have received four awards for the restoration of the water-powered Hope sawmill, including the national WoodWORKS! Heritage Award in 2003.

The 61st Annual Ontario Professional Engineers Awards Gala will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008, at The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.
