April 2: SUSTAINING THE URBAN FOREST: STARTING A NEIGHBORHOOD URBAN FOREST STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM
Andy Kenney from the University of Toronto Forestry Dept. will provide a local look at community initiatives and urban forestry policies. As a series sponsor, the Peterborough Field Naturalists will participate in the panel discussion following the presentation

April 6: TRENT NATURE AREAS WALK ALONG THE OTONABEE RIVER: BANK, FOREST AND WETLAND
Stroll along the west bank of the Otonabee River between the dams at Lock 22 and 23. See the 150 year old sugar maples, beech and black cherry trees in a setting that is reminiscent of the "interminable forest" that Susanna Moodie walked through to get from Peterborough to Dummer [Township] ("the last clearing in the world"). Learn to identify trees and shrubs in their winter condition. Please wear footwear appropriate for the weather conditions.

April 12: PETERBOROUGH FIELD NATURALISTS HOST A MARSH MONITORING PROGRAM WORKSHOP
This session is for those who have signed up to participate in this program (9:30 am to 12 noon, Marshland Centre, Lakefield). Participants will learn where to set up a survey route,
how to use the field forms, tips on identifying the birds and frogs,
when and how to do the surveys and help with GPS units and maps. The indoor portion of the workshop will be held at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield, and the outdoor portion will be at Imagine the Marsh. The outdoor portion will run through an actual survey station protocol and will clarify the type of marsh habitat required for a survey.
April 13: PETERBOROUGH FIELD NATURALISTS SUNDAY MORNING BIRD WALKS BEGIN
Join Jerry Ball for the first Sunday Morning Bird Walk as another season of Sunday morning bird walks begin. Each walk lasts approximately 2 hours and will be held every Sunday until mid June. Enthusiasts from novice to expert are invited. Meet in the parking lot at the Riverview Park and Zoo at 8:00am and we will carpool from there. Bring some $ for gas and your binoculars. These “walks” last about 2 hours and will be held every Sunday from April 13 to June 15. From novice to expert, these outings are sure to please anyone interested in seeing, hearing and learning about local birds.
April 16: GREEN DRINKS
Every month people who work in the environmental field meet up for a beverage at informal sessions known as Green Drinks - it's a chance to mix with other like-minded folks, to network, share info and make friends. 5pm at Riley’s Pub, George Street Peterborough.
April 19: EARTH DAY JACKSON CREEK CLEAN UP
Join us for the 10th annual Earth Day Jackson Creek Clean Up hosted by the Otonabee Conservation Foundation and Tim Horton’s.
Saturday April 19, 2008, 11:00am – 1:00pm.
Meet at the main entrance to Jackson Park (Monaghan Road and Parkhill Road). Gloves and bags will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Volunteers will pickup litter throughout Jackson Park and along the Creek following the trail towards downtown.

April 20: MILLENNIUM PARK CLEAN UP
Join the Frontier College, Adventure Divers and Peterborough Communication Support systems staff and volunteers from 10:00am –12:00pm to receive gloves and bags at the Boat House small building beside the Silver Bean. A concentrated clean up of the waterfront park and railway bed to George Street will be the focus. A BBQ will follow at Millennium Park.
April 20: EARTH WEEK WALK ON THE LAKEFIELD TRAIL
Join Drew Monkman and Jerry Ball on the Lakefield Trail in celebration of Earth Week. Meet at the Imagine the Marsh viewing tower at 10am, please leave your vehicle in the parking lot at the Douglas Sports Centre. The Trail committee invites participants back for refreshments at the “Nutshell Nextdoor” coffee shop on Queen Street in Lakefield.
April 21-25: CLEAN AGAIN-GREEN AGAIN SCHOOL YARD CLEAN-UPS
36 local schools will participate by hosting a school yard clean-up.
PETERBOROUGH GREEN UP QUEST FOR LESS EARTH WEEK CHALLENGE
Peterborough Green Up staff will be helping schools across Peterborough County to reduce their waste during the month of April (Registration by April 4th by calling Green-Up 745-3238)
MONAGHAN ROAD CLEAN UP AT CGE
Canadian Auto Workers, Canadian General Electric staff and students from Prince of Wales Elementary School work together to clean up the area surrounding CGE and the school on Monaghan Road.
April 21-27: PITCH-IN CANADA WEEK
To become a partner, decide on a project such as starting a cell phone recycling program, planting trees, a neighborhood clean up or setting up a composting program. Activities can take a few hours, days or be an on-going commitment – it’s up to you. Visit www.pitch-in.ca for more ideas.

ECOLOGY PARK BENEFIT
Join friends and fans of the Ecology Park at The Spill, George Street for an evening of music, live and silent auction, and refreshments in support of Peterborough Ecology Park. Starts at 8:30pm.
April 22: ADOPT-A-NEIGHBOURHOOD
Community Groups can contact Duncan Manser at the City of Peterborough Public Works Department 745-1386 to identify areas that they are planning to clean up. Bags, gloves and garbage pick up will be provided by the City of Peterborough Public Works Department.
ROTARY CLUB OF PETERBOROUGH KAWARTHA
The Peterborough Kawartha Rotary Club is hosting a clean up of local areas with high school students. After the clean up, a celebration will be held at Millennium Park.
PEPSI QTG
Pepsi QTG is showing their environmental leadership and community spirit by hosting a variety of events during Earth Week for employees and their families. These events include a drawing contest, litter clean up, displays, trivia contest and displays from community partners.
April 26: GREEN EXPO 2008
10 am to 4 pm, Evinrude Centre, Peterborough
Central Ontario's source for eco-friendly products and services for building and living. Organic, all natural, recycled, sustainable, fair trade, energy efficient and otherwise good-for-the-earth products and services exhibited throughout the day. Accompanying the exhibits will be presentations on a variety of 'green' topics as well as delicious organic food and a supervised children's area.
