BUSINESS PARTNERS IN CONSERVATION

The Otonabee Conservation Foundation invites you to join other business leaders in our community in supporting the Trees Project - reforestation and environmental education program! Thanks to the continued support of the Business Partners in Conservation, the Trees Project is the most successful environmental program of its kind
in our watershed community. In 2007, 15,000 trees and shrubs were planted in the watershed and 800 students participated in classroom and outdoor learning opportunities.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATION:

Through the forest stewardship education program of the Trees Project, area high school students have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of forest ecosystem management through in-class instruction and outdoor experiential education. The 50-minute classroom presentation introduces the concepts of interconnectedness of nature in the watershed and the importance of sustainable forest ecosystem management. The program covers tree species identification, the environmental and economic value of forests, forest cover characteristics of the Otonabee region watershed and
silviculture techniques.

OUTDOOR EXPERIENTIAL OPPORTUNITY:

Following the classroom presentation, the students have the opportunity to participate in a tree planting activity on conservation land or privately owned land. The students learn that marginal or idle agricultural lands are ideal candidates for reforestation. The soil and drainage characteristics of the property are taken into consideration when selecting the appropriate tree species for the site. The students begin to understand that reforested land will help reduce erosion, improve air and water quality and create habitat for a variety of wildlife species. And, they learn how to plant a tree with patience and care.

BUSINESS PARTNERS IN CONSERVATION

The Otonabee Conservation Foundation cannot carry out this reforestation and environmental education program without the donations of its buisness partners.

As a Business Partner in Conservation, you can take pride in knowing that your donation is an investment in the conservation education of our youth and is helping to create a healthier environment.

Here are a couple of examples of how a donation is allocated....

  • $200.00 - the purchase of 400 white spruce seedlings
  • $200.00 - a tree planting experience for a class of students, highlighting the benefits of establishing healthy forests
  • $450.00 - reforestation of one-acre of land which will produce enough oxygen for 18 people each day!

Your financial support in 2007 will be acknowledged with a charitable tax receipt and we will present you with a wooden engraved plaque that may be
prominently displayed in your office.

The Otonabee Conservation Foundation thanks you in advance for your interest and support in becoming a Business Partner in Conservation for the Trees Project!
