Kellie Sherman of Crestwood Secondary School (Peterborough) is the 2007 recipient of the Conservation Foundation McCulloch Scholarship. Kellie plans to attend Fleming College this fall for the Ecosystem Management Program.

Conservation Foundation McCulloch Scholarship

The Conservation Foundation McCulloch Scholarship was established by the Otonabee Conservation Foundation in 2003. The Scholarship is supported by a bequest to the Otonabee Conservation Foundation from the late Mary Margaret (McCulloch) Edison. The Foundation acknowledges her commitment to conservation and the environment
through this award.

The scholarship recognizes dedication and leadership in conservation or environmental projects and related issues shown by a graduating student who plans to pursue post secondary education in an environment related field of study.

Who is eleigible to receive this scholarship?

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating student of a high school located within the Otonabee Region Watershed who has demonstrated commitment and leadership in local environmental initiatives that have made a tangible difference
within the watershed community.

Graduating students from a high school within the Otonabee Region Watershed. (This includes Crestwood, Kenner, Adam Scott, St. Peters, Holy Cross, Peterborough Collegiate Vocational School, Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School, Norwood District, Lakefield District, and Lakefield College).

Students who will be attending a post secondary institution in 2007/08, in a field related to the environment.

The student must be nominated by a faculty member or member of the community
(i.e. a student cannot nominate themselves)

What is the value of the scholarship?

The value of this scholarship is $300.00.

Required Supporting Documentation:

  • Letter of nomination (a 1-2 page description of the student and why they are deserving of this award). This letter should focus on the environmental initiatives that the student has been involved with and should describe how the student has demonstrated leadership within the community. The selection of the winning candidate will be heavily weighted on this letter and supporting materials.
  • The nominated student must demonstrate that they fulfil the
    eligibility requirements listed above.
  • Acceptance letter from a post-secondary institution
  • Letter from the principal confirming that the student has attended an eligible school and is graduating in the current year

2007 Deadline for Nominations:

The application for nominations must be received at the Conservation Foundation no later than June 1, 2007. Note: Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
