A Tree in the School Yard

Canada’s sixth annual National Tree Day was celebrated in communities across the country on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. The Otonabee Conservation Foundation, in partnership with the City of Peterborough, GreenUp and Otonabee Conservation, marked this national event by planting a Green Mountain Sugar Maple tree at King George Public Elementary School in Peterborough. Each year the Foundation helps to purchase trees to recognize the efforts of 30 schools that participate in the annual Earth Day School Yard Clean-up. The trees are planted in the school yard to provide shade, habitat and opportunities for outdoor learning.
