Yellow Fish Road
The Yellow Fish Road Program has two components:
1) Insightful Conversation – Participants are introduced to the concept of a watershed, how water moves through a watershed, particularly where water flows after a rainstorm, and that the storm drains all lead directly to local creeks, streams and rivers. Participants are reminded that only water should do down a storm sewer, and learn about the aquatic species that inhabit local watercourses; and,
2) Yellow Fish Painting – Participants paint yellow fish on the road/street beside storm drains to remind local residents that substances entering the storm drain will directly impact fish and fish habitat of the affect watercourse. Information about the program and how to properly dispose of household hazardous waste is provided to each residence throughout the neighborhood to ensure that residents are aware of the program and recognize the significance of the newly painted Yellow Fish.
