Open Letter to Residents of the Watershed
The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority (Otonabee Conservation) is one of Ontario’s 36 Conservation Authorities. We are a community based envirornmental protection agency that works closely with municipal, provincial and federal government partners, landowners and community groups to maintain and improve the natural resources in the Otonabee Region watershed.
Otonabee Conservation promotes an integrated watershed approach – one that balances human, environmental and economic needs. Our success is based on local initaitive, watershed jurisdiction and partnerships in resource management. The Authority engages many community partners and external funders to complete a variety of projects that visibly demonstrates the principles of cooperation, collaboration, customer service and public engagement.
In 2015, we completed the Addendum to the Environmental Study Report for the Millbrook Dam, completed 36 environmental stewardship projects, delivered education programs to over 3,500 students, and welcomed over 44,000 visitors to our conservation areas and campgrounds. These are just a few highlights of some of our projects and partnerships outlined in the Annual Report.
Thanks in large part to the continued support of our Board, member municipalities, government and non-governmental partners and staff, our accomplishments during the past year were impactful and well received in the watershed community. We hope that you will find this reflection on the past year enlightening and informative and we look forward to another productive year in 2016!
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Otonabee Conservation, I trust you will find this reflection on the activities and accomplishments of your local conservation authority during the past year enlightening and informative.
Yours in conservation ~
Chair of the Board
